BOCA
Buffalo Outreach and Community Assistance (BOCA) is a public health organization that recruits students and professionals to promote dental education and implement free dental care in those areas of the world that lack adequate access to care. We engage with the broader Buffalo community through tabling at local health fairs and participating in dental screening events. Students also volunteer in non-dental outreach events such as Habitat for Humanity and soup kitchens.
UB RUN FOR SMILES 5K
Each year, the dental school puts on a 5K race for members of UB and the community to take part in. Money raised from the 5K goes to fund dental care for patients of the school who cannot afford along with reducing other barriers to dental care.
VETERANS DAY at SDM
Free dental care is provided for veterans who lack dental insurance or do not qualify for dental treatment through the Veterans Health Administration. Dentists, from both the school and the community, along with students provide care ranging from cleanings to fillings and oral surgery.
GIVE KIDS A SMILE DAY
A day full of free dental care & more at UB SDM
Hundreds of children receive free oral health care and learn about oral hygiene during the annual Give Kids a Smile Day held each year in February by the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. Much of the success of this year’s Give Kids A Smile Day program is due to the hard work and sacrifice of our health care partners – the university audiologists, dietitians, nurse practitioners, and social workers who gave up their Saturday to be with us to provide care to these children. Due to their efforts, we were able to provide blood pressure checks, flu shots, hearing tests, and diet analysis (“lunchology”).
